Consultation

The initial consultation is a complimentary conversation designed to help us learn more about your concerns and determine the best next step. During this conversation, we will discuss your child’s communication development, sensory and motor development, current concerns, family priorities, and any questions you may have about speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, or related services.

The consultation helps us decide whether a screening may be helpful. It is also an opportunity for you to learn more about our approach and determine whether Leap Ahead Therapy Services may be a good fit for your family.

Screening

A screening is a more in-depth opportunity to gather information about your child’s communication, sensory, motor, play, and functional daily living skills. During the screening, we may use observation, parent interview, informal tasks, play-based interactions, and review of developmental concerns to better understand your child’s strengths and areas of need.

The purpose of the screening is to determine whether a full speech-language or occupational therapy evaluation is recommended. A screening is not a formal diagnosis or complete evaluation, but it can help guide next steps and provide helpful information for families.
